Remote Sensing - Reports summarize remote sensing research from University of Maryland
2008 DEC 8 - (VerticalNews.com) -- According to recent research from the United States, "The Aquarius/SAC-D mission will employ three L-band (1.41 GHz) radiometers dedicated to the remote sensing of sea surface salinity. The radiation from the Sun reflected at the ocean surface toward the radiometer is an important source of interference for retrieving salinity; in fact, the mission will be in a dawn/dusk Sun-synchronous orbit with the beams oriented toward the night side of the orbit in order to limit this signal. ...read more
Remote Sensing - New remote sensing findings from University of Maryland described
2008 DEC 8 - (VerticalNews.com) -- According to recent research from the United States, "A new type of remote-sensing radiometer based upon the Fabry-Perot (FP) interferometric technique has been developed at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and tested from both ground and aircraft platforms. The sensor uses direct or reflected sunlight and has channels for measuring the column concentration of carbon dioxide at 1570 nm, oxygen lines sensitive to pressure and temperature at 762 and 768 nm, and water vapor (940 nm). ...read more
Remote Sensing - Recent findings from J. Arenasgarcia and co-authors highlight research in remote sensing
2008 DEC 8 - (VerticalNews.com) -- According to recent research from Madrid, Spain, "This paper studies the performance and applicability of a novel kernel partial least squares (KPLS) algorithm for nonlinear feature extraction in the context of remote sensing applications." "The so-called kernel orthonormalized PLS algorithm with reduced complexity (rKOPLS) has the following two core parts: 1) a kernel version of OPLS (called KOPLS) and 2) a sparse approximation for large-scale data sets, which ultimately leads to the rKOPLS algorithm. The method is theoretically analyzed in terms of computational burden and memory requirements and is tested in common remote sensing applications: multi- and hyperspectral image classification and biophysical parameter estimation problems," wrote J. Arenasgarcia and colleagues ...read more
